Fried chicken’s a deliciously indulgent comfort food enjoyed all over the world. This ultimate soul food originated in our own backyard — where Scottish chicken-frying methods were combined with West African seasoning traditions. Fried chicken was an expensive delicacy up until World War II, but thanks to mass production techniques, we’re now able to indulge ourselves on the cheap in almost any city in the world. Here in Kentucky, we have the Fried Chicken Trail. This trail includes 14 restaurants in the Lexington and Louisville area. So on July 6, we get your napkins and get ready to lick your fingers, because it’s National Fried Chicken Day.
Kentucky is home to a number of innovative food dishes but one of the most famous is Kentucky Fried Chicken. But the legacy of fried chicken in Kentucky goes far beyond the Colonel and many restaurants around the state are contenders for best-fried chicken in Kentucky. In addition, the World Chicken Festival held every September in London, Kentucky features family-friendly activities, live music and some of the best fried chicken you will find anywhere.
