Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit in Black Mountain, North Carolina has been serving up amazing meats and sides for over 14 years. This eclectic BBQ joint will have you wanting more even though you are stuffed to the brim from their large platters and delicious sides.
Phil’s is unique in it’s decor with an impressive number of ballcaps hanging from the ceiling and windows trimmed with bottle caps. Phil is also an avid collector of license plates as evidenced by the walls covered top to bottom.
Port, Chicken, Brisket and more are all available in sandwiches or platters. All of their meats are rubbed with their own blend of special seasoning and then smoked with hickory hardwoods. All come with generous side dishes that make it difficult to decide on which ones to try. And, they offer 5 original bar-b-que sauces as well. All of their sauces are available in take home bottles.
On my first visit, I tried the ribs which were St. Louis style with light sauce, dry rubbed and slow cooked to fall of the bone to perfection. The second visit, included a chopped pork platter. Might I recommend combining the sauces in the caddy on your table. A fantastic combination is the Carolina Vinegar, Mustard and Classic Sauce.
I got to chatting it up with the couple at the next table who had ordered the nachos with brisket. The portion was so generous that they both split it but independently said that it was so good they wanted their own order next time.
Phil’s Bar-B-Que is located right off of Exit 64 in Black Mountain. There is plenty of parking and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Their expansive patio is perfect for large and small groups all year long. They offer plenty of covered and non-covered outside dining options. Note that the patio is dog friendly and they will even bring your pup water. If it gets a bit too chilly, they have heaters for your comfort and warmth. For those cooler days, I recommend the brunswick stew to warm you through and through.
