Historical Churches of Downtown Cynthiana

I personally love checking out the historic churches when I travel. The architecture is magnificent and the stained glass windows make for stunning photographs. The city of Cynthiana has several beautiful historic churches, which I recommend taking the time to look at the next time you are in Cynthiana. If you start at the pocket park, there is a new walking tour where you can follow the colored pathways through town to see all of these churches.

Ebenezer United Methodist Church

Located at 205 Locust Street, this church was built in 1892. The circular window behind the pulpit was designed in such a way that when the sun shines through the window, it looks like stars are shining.

First United Methodist Church

The present church was built in 1905 and can be found at 302 East Pike Street. The pews and alter are original and made of solid oak. The main auditorium has a high ceiling which is home to a large, exquisite stained glass window.

Cynthiana Christian Church Kentucky

Cynthiana Christian Church

The church was built in 1899 and is a blend of Romanesque, Byzantine and early Gothic. The church is 202 North Main Street. The church is only one of two buildings in Cynthiana that used stones from the Mcgibbin Quarry.

Cynthiana Presbyterian Church

The church is the second oldest church in Cynthiana, built in 1879. It is a Gothic structure with a tall tower with high Gothic windows of stained glass. You can find this church at 103 North Main Street.

Church of the Advent Episcopal

This church was thought to be a hospital during the Civil War and was established in 1835. The bell was placed in the tower in 1876 and came from Cincinnati. Located at 118 North Walnut Street

Cynthiana Baptist Church

The church was dedicated in 1915 and can be found at 212 East Pleasant Street. The style of the building is Classic Renaissance of the Grecian order. The main auditorium is decorated with 6 large windows of Ionic design.

Saint James A.M.E. Church

312 West Pleasant Street. The present church building was built in 1875 The bell is still functional and is rung for afternoon programs. The church has several stained glass windows and a pipe organ.
