This past weekend we decided to spend the day in Frankfort and see what the state capital had to offer. We started at the Josephine Sculpture Park and then moved on to the Butterfly Greenhouse at Wilson nurseries. After all of that hiking and walking, we needed a snack so we asked the locals and overwhelmingly, everyone told us to head to Hoggy’s.
This adorable little shop sits in the heart of downtown and has both indoor and outside seating. If you choose to sit outside, there are some great views.
They’ve got 20 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream to choose from. We opted for Sea Salt Caramel and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup in a waffle cone. We each had 2 scoops and I have to say, without eating lunch, we still could barely finish our cones. We did of course because it was so delicious.
Their waffle cones are delicious and made right there on-site. Here’s the difference between other waffle cones – theses are thicker and hold the ice cream better. I think they may even have a hint of vanilla in the batter, but don’t quote me on that.
When we arrived, the line was to about the door, but hadn’t made it’s way outside yet. The staff was quick and friendly to keep the line moving along. I think we might have waited about 5 minutes to be served. By the time we left, the line was out the door, which I am told is a frequent occurrence. It’s well worth the wait.
The ice cream is reasonably priced and there are many options to choose from. Hoggy’s is open Monday – Thursday from 11am – 8pm, Friday & Saturday from 11am – 9pm and Sundays from 1pm – 5pm.
