Miranda Schultz The Plus Life Blog

Were you born in Kentucky or did you move here?
I was born in Kentucky!

What is your favorite thing about Kentucky in general?
The absolute best part about Kentucky is its people!  I absolutely LOVE the “down-home” personalities and how you never meet a stranger here.  You also can’t beat the gorgeous green hills, the horses, and the basketball!

If someone were visiting you from out of town, where would you absolutely have to take them in Kentucky?
If someone were visiting me from out of town, depending upon the time of year, I’d take them to a game at Rupp Arena or Kroger Field (although I can’t stand calling it anything other than Commonwealth Stadium) or maybe a race at Keeneland, then dinner at Merrick Inn (fried chicken, please).  If I could convince them to make the drive to my hometown (Irvine, KY) I’d take them for a swirl ice cream cone at the Burger Barn.  The ice cream alone is worth the hour drive from Lexington.  I promise.

Where is your favorite place to go in Kentucky as a family?
We LOVE going for long drives in the country while listening to good music!  Once we’re able to get out and about again and be around people, we look forward to spending time at Newport Aquarium, farmers markets, festivals/fairs, etc.

Tell me a little about your family? (and that cute baby of course!!).
I’ve been married to my husband, Kevin, since 2016 but we’ve been friends since around 2005 and dated since 2010.  He’s originally from New York, and I spent seven years living there before we moved back to Kentucky a few years ago.  We have a sweet little daughter, Caroline Claire, who is three months old.  It sounds cliche but she is truly the light of our lives and we are loving every minute with her! Kevin is an accountant by day and has done photography since high school for fun.  He takes all of the photos for my blog which is quite convenient.

What inspired you to start your blog?
I started my blog as a creative outlet during a time when I was feeling a little burned out and stressed at my then corporate job.  I loved connecting with likeminded women and spending time talking about all of the things I love like plus size fashion and home decor.

Tell me more about what readers can expect on your blog?
My blog is a lifestyle blog for plus size women.  You’ll find a lot of plus size fashion, home life content like decor and organization, and other pertinent topics like body confidence, travel, and more.

What is your website and your social media channels?
My website is and you can find me on Instagram and Facebook at @thepluslifeblog.  I also have a Facebook group that is currently my favorite place on the internet! The group can be found at

What’s in store in the next year on your blog?
As my life and lifestyle has changed, my blog is evolving too.  I’m adding a lot more family and home content over the next year which is really fun! I’ll be doing some budget room makeovers and organizing projects, sharing more recipes, and talking about mom and wife life!

What’s the most challenging part of having a blog?
For me, the most challenging part of having a blog is not allowing my desire for perfection to hold me back from taking action.  When you’re a solopreneur like I am, literally everything falls on you to manage.  Bookkeeping, social media, analytics, SEO, advertising, brand negotiations, creative direction, etc. I have to try hard to not let overwhelm set in and just focus on what I can accomplish each day – especially now that I’m a mom and have limited time during the day to work on the blog.

What is your favorite thing about having a blog?
My favorite part about having the blog is being able to connect with like-minded people and talk about all the things we all enjoy.  I have always been someone who friends and family tend to come to for advice, and I really enjoy being a resource for people and sharing things I love and things I’m learning along the way.

What else would you like people to know about the blog?
I’d like for people to know that I’m pretty much an open book and love sharing content that meets the needs of my readers.  I often do “Ask me anything” Q&As and am always open to DMs and emails requesting specific content that would be helpful.

Moving away from the blog for several questions, I’d like to get to know you a bit better.  What is your educational background and where did you go to college?
I went to UK (Go Cats!) and studied business – I double majored in Marketing and Management.

What’s your no-fail go-for-it motivational song?
I am a huge music buff so I have a lot of different songs that get me pumped up.  I love Broadway, so I like listening to Defying Gravity from Wicked.  My little nephew’s summer camp theme song was “Best Day Of My Life” last year too and I thought that was so cute.  Now I like listening to it when I need a mood boost.

What’s the one thing in life you’re so glad you did?
I am SO glad that my husband and I spent time traveling before starting our family.  We have so many fun travel memories that I’ll always cherish.  I especially love Paris and can’t wait to take my daughter there when she’s older.

Who’s the one person who changed your life?
I’m going to cheat and choose two – both of my grandmothers.  One was a small business owner and I think I got my entrepreneurial spirit from her.  The other was an amazing cook and was always cleaning, organizing, and rearranging her house.  I get my love of all things home from her.  Both were incredible women who loved their families so well and have played a huge role in shaping the woman I am.

What gives you hope?
My faith in God is my primary source of hope. I’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs in the past year and that faith has helped me navigate it all.

What’s the best mistake you ever made?
It turned out that it wasn’t a mistake, but the riskiest thing I’ve ever done was pack up my life and move from Kentucky to New York starting over with a new job and no friends or family nearby – to be closer to my then-boyfriend who eventually became my husband.  I literally sold everything I owned except what fit in my car and gave myself a week in a hotel to find a place to live before starting my job.  I moved into my apartment the night before I started my job and slept on an air mattress until I had time to buy a new bed.

What would you love to invent?
I don’t really have a desire to invent a specific product, but I would love to create a well-loved lifestyle brand kind of similar to what Joanna Gaines has created with Magnolia.  I have the domain name purchased and the idea, but now isn’t the right time to start.  One day!

If you could choose any magical power, what would it be?
I think I’d like to be able to fly… I love to travel so being able to quickly get wherever I want would be fun.

What’s one thing you’d change about yourself?
I wish I weren’t QUITE so type A… I’d like to be a bit more laid back and less of a perfectionist.

What is your pettiest pet peeve?
I absolutely cannot stand it when people don’t push their chairs in when they get up.  For the first couple of years of dating my now-husband, I would basically follow him around pushing in his chair for him.  I have no idea why I didn’t just tell him it bothered me.  I even push in chairs at empty tables at restaurants as I walk in or out if I can do it inconspicuously.
