If you are looking for a nostalgic drive-in eatery, then head over to the Parkette Drive-In in Lexington. This place is a landmark and local icon. In 2013 they added a 90 seat Retro 50’s Dine In Garage.
At this time, they are still open and able of do drive-in dining only. The garage is closed for inside dining.
The fried chicken here use to be called ‘Kentucky Fried Chicken,’ but now it’s just known as Joe’s Original. It is served with gravy, fries or tater tots, hot roll and coleslaw. Chicken options are 1/2 mixed, 1/2 all white, 1/4 all dark or 1/4 white.
We ordered a half white an a half dark box, one with fries and one with onion rings for our crew of 4. Let me just say there were some thumb wars happening over the onion rings – so crispy and done to perfection. This fried chicken is also some of the tastiest and crispiest you will find in Lexington. No wonder it’s part of the Fried Chicken Trail!! They also scored in the upper 90s in to earn a designation of Best in the Bluegrass.
Our service was fast and friendly and the food came packaged nicely with plenty of napkins and condiments. This is a lot of food for a great price – freshy prepared and piping hot when it’s delivered to your car.
Hands down we recommend this restaurant not only for its food, but it’s atmosphere and nostalgia. Great place to take out of town guests.
