Want to put your name on a bourbon, literally? Join the Maker’s Mark Ambassador program and that’s what is going to happen.

As a Maker’s Mark Ambassador, your name will be etched into history and onto a new barrel of Maker’s Mark as it begins the process of aging to craft a fine bourbon. In your Ambassador kit, you’ll receive a beautiful Barrel Dedication Certificate showing the barrel number and name etched onto your personal barrel.

The barrels are made with American white oak planks air-dried outdoors for at least nine months which helps to remove the bitter-tasting tannins that might otherwise affect the taste. After the proper drying, the barrel is charred from the inside. This charring helps produce the caramal-rich “red layer” to all bottles of Maker’s Mark bourbon.

Throughout the aging process the bourbon inside will be tasted. There’s a hole in the barrel which is plugged with a hard walnut bung so the maker’s can get in for tastings during the aging process, which is somewhere between six and seven years.

What else comes along with being an Ambassador? You’ll receive the welcome kit which includes your barrel certificate, official ambassador business cards, information about the technical details of Maker’s Mark Bourbon and the manifesto.

As an Ambassador, you are entitled to certain rights and privileges:

  • Your name on a Maker’s Mark barrel
  • Updates on how your barrel is doing
  • The chance to visit Maker’s Mark once your barrel has matured and to buy a bottle from the batch that includes your barrel
  • Special treatment when you visit the distillery
  • Opportunity to purchase exclusive Maker’s Mark merchandise
  • Advance notice of limited-release Maker’s Mark bottles
  • Much more

What’s included in the “much more”? Well, just this week I got invited to an event here in Lexington where Maker’s Mark Master Distiller Denny Potter visits Lexington to meet the Ambassadors. He’ll share stories from his years in the bourbon trade, including those in Loretto. Even better? Belle’s will be introducing its all-new bourbon slushie machine. Just in time for the warm weather, this new addition to Belle’s cranks out fun and frozen treats featuring Maker’s Mark® Bourbon and Kentucky’s own Ale-8-One® soda.
