This week I had the privilege of checking out the new location for Spotz Gelato in Georgetown. Owners, Beth and Philip, have had 3 trucks and have now expanded with new locations in Versailles and Georgetown. In addition, they also have in-door mini bars so they can bring their amazing Gelato to you. They started with their first truck in 2013.
Their new location in Georgetown has their Grand Opening on this coming Friday, March 29th. They will host a preview night with a fundraiser for Old Friends Farm on March 28th.
What is Gelato?
Gelato is a frozen dessert popular in Italy. It is generally a mixture of custard, cream, and milk, without eggs. Gelato is made with a base of milk and sugar. It is generally lower in fat than other styles of ice cream
Spotz Gelato is handmade using local ingredients from KY farmers. They are also a certified KY Proud business.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever had Gelato. I tried the Cookies and Cream. One word – HEAVEN! The gelato was so creamy, not heavy at all and didn’t make me thirsty afterwards. It’s so rich – the taste was sensational, but not overpowering or too sweet.
Beth and Philip make all of their own products on their family farm. When you see them in one of the locations or at the trucks, ask them about their blueberry supplier! Speaking of trucks, their hot pink trucks travel to festivals and events all over KY from April to October.
Be sure to stop by their grand opening on March 29th from Noon until 9pm in downtown Georgetown. They are just a couple of doors down from Galvin’s on main.
