Driving from Lexington, KY to Knoxville, TN, I always stop at the Veterans Overlook near Bean Station. This is the overlook on Clinch Mountain where you can see the valley below, including Dollar Island in Cherokee Lake. There is a wonderful view of the lake and surrounding area. A plaque discusses the history of the area and there is a touching memorial to our veterans.
Bean Station is one of Tennessee’s earliest settlements. The valley you see from the overlook was a warpath for the Cherokees, led Daniel Boone to Cumberland Gap and was travelled by Davy Crockett.
